What is the UCDE (USEDCAR Drivers Experience)?

A UCDE is a “school” created by world class driver, instructor and coach Reed Kryder. Subjects covered will include a complete orientation of all on track flags and how to respond to each of them. The drivers will rotate positions from informative classroom sessions to driving sessions, for a full experience of all aspects of road racing. Q/A sessions and personalized instruction from Reed and other racing veterans is also included.

The UCDE is NOT just for rookies. With Reed’s extensive race background and teaching experience sections will be made available for drivers of ANY skill level.

Meet the Instructors:

The UCDE is honored and proud to have Reed Kryder as our lead instructor.

Reed has been road racing since 1971, and a driving instructor since 1992.

Reeds racing awards and experience include:
  • IMSA Appearances at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring, 1986.

  • Qualified Top 10 in all seven IMSA events entered, 1987.

  • Finished on podium (top 3) in 3 of 4 SCCA Showroom Stock Events entered, 1987.

  • His Fifth Place IMSA GTU season finish was the highest finish by a non-factory driver in 1991.

  • One Lap of America Third Overall and Top Independent in 1996.

  • Several class victories at “The Longest Day” the SCCA 24 hour endurance race at Nelson Ledges.

Reed also spends many weekends as the SCCA Driver School Chief Instructor, as well as:
  • The Head Driving Instructor at the 1997 annual Lotus Owners Gathering.

  • Coaching numerous drivers including seven at the SCCA Run-Offs at Mid-Ohio in 2005.

  • The lead instructor for Racing Experience Inc. from 2000-2006.

  • Has been active with the TrackTime Performance Driving Schools.

  • Nine years (2001-2009) organizing and running a one-day school at Willow Springs.

Assisting Reed with the UCDE are multiple Nelson Ledges veterans and champions.

UC plans on allowing drivers and Teams to utilize both street cars and their UC race cars to maximize participation opportunities at these events.

We’ll structure our actual class/driving sessions around the total number and types of cars/drivers participating.

To help us better anticipate potential attendance please mark YES on the box on the application if you might me interested in attending a UCDE. This will not obligate you to anything- just give us an idea of how many potential participants may be interested. More info will be shared with Team Captains closer to race date!
